Taiwan Invests Heavily in Drones for Defense Against Potential China Invasion

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Taiwan is preparing for a potential invasion by China through substantial investment in drones and other unmanned weapons systems, drawing inspiration from the conflict in Ukraine.

The strategy aims to create a “drone hell” around Taiwan, leveraging the effectiveness of unmanned aerial vehicles in identifying and attacking enemy forces, as observed in the Ukraine war where drones have become a critical tool.

This approach, as reported by The New York Times, involves utilizing drones for reconnaissance of Chinese forces, tracking their movements, and launching preemptive strikes before they can establish a foothold on the island.

NDTV further noted that Taiwan is closely observing Ukraine, where relatively inexpensive drones have played a crucial role in locating and engaging enemy troops. Taiwan intends to apply a similar strategy to counter China, which possesses a significantly larger military. China, located approximately 110 miles from Taiwan, considers the self-governing island part of its territory, and while Beijing prefers peaceful unification, it has not ruled out the use of military force.

China has been expanding its military capabilities around Taiwan, including naval vessels, aircraft, missiles, and drones. Chinese forces have also increased coast guard patrols and military exercises. Major General (Retired) Mick Ryan of Australia, who has studied both Ukraine and Taiwan, commented that Taiwan recognizes the pivotal role drones will play across all domains and stages of a potential conflict with China.
