7.4 Magnitude Earthquake Devastates Colombian Airports and Cities, Causing Fatalities

The Colombian Civil Aviation Authority announced that six airports have sustained damage, leading to the suspension of air traffic operations. Reports confirm damage to the airport infrastructure, halting all aerial movement.

In Cali, the mayor reported that 20 buildings collapsed as a direct result of the earthquake, with individuals trapped beneath the debris. Reuters, quoting the mayor of Pereira, stated that 18 people lost their lives in the seismic event. Additionally, Russia Today reported that Colombian authorities confirmed 12 fatalities following the severe earthquake in the city of Manizales, located in the western part of the country. The Colombian Geological Service had earlier reported the magnitude of the earthquake that shook the country’s western coast as 7.4 on the Richter scale.
