Lebanon-Israel Tensions Delay Next Round of Talks, Israeli Media Reports
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, citing Al Jazeera and the Israeli network Kan, the time for the next round of negotiations with Lebanon has been delayed due to escalating tensions between the two sides.
Lebanon has reportedly refused to hold future negotiations in protest of the Israeli forces not expanding their withdrawal areas. Israeli sources also claimed that Israel complained to Washington about the activities of the Lebanese army, alleging that the Lebanese army is coordinating with Hezbollah.
The postponement of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel comes as an unnamed American official told Al Jazeera that Lebanese-Israeli negotiations, mediated by the United States, would continue in Rome early next month. The official added that a military coordination group would continue its work to implement the first “testing zones.”
Referring to the status of the Lebanon-Israel negotiations, the official stated that both sides face political limitations, and the U.S. is working to systematically remove these obstacles in stages. This U.S. State Department official also claimed that “the path of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel remains positive,” without mentioning repeated Israeli breaches of the ceasefire, and asserted that neither side is delaying the implementation of the agreement.
Concluding, the official alleged that Hezbollah is attempting to disrupt the negotiation process, while Lebanon and Israel are facing domestic political pressures, without referencing repeated Israeli aggressions into Lebanon.
