US Acknowledges Israeli Presence in Lebanon Contradicts Framework Agreement

A U.S. State Department official has acknowledged that Israel’s permanent presence in southern Lebanon contradicts the commitments made by the regime under the Framework Agreement. The unnamed official emphasized that Washington expects all parties to adhere to and act in accordance with the provisions of the signed Framework Agreement.

The official further stated that a permanent Israeli presence in southern Lebanon is at odds with the long-term security interests of both parties and could jeopardize the peace and security of Lebanon and Israel in the long run. Separately, the U.S. State Department informed Al Jazeera that any permanent Israeli presence in southern Lebanon is not compatible with the obligations outlined in the Framework Agreement.

While not explicitly condemning the Israeli military’s presence on Lebanese soil, Washington asserted that the United States fully supports Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Concurrently, the U.S. State Department confirmed Tel Aviv’s narrative, stating that Israel’s insistence is that it harbors no territorial ambitions regarding Lebanese land.

This assertion comes despite a recent map published by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs that annexed parts of southern Lebanon to occupied Palestinian territories. The U.S. State Department concluded by noting that the Lebanese army is currently implementing initial pilot zones, and the United States continues to support the full execution of this process.
