Massive Explosion Rocks Italian Ammunition Plant Near Rome; Rotterdam Port Incident Also Reported
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Italian police reported on Thursday that a significant explosion at an ammunition and explosives manufacturing plant near Rome has led to fatalities and injuries. The blast occurred in the town of Colleferro, approximately 40 kilometers southeast of the Italian capital.
The facility is reportedly owned by the German defense group KNDS, which specializes in producing medium and heavy caliber ammunition for land and naval forces. Emergency services, including firefighters and rescue teams, were immediately deployed to the scene to combat the blaze and search for potential survivors trapped under debris. Concerns remain about the possibility of further explosions within the plant.
Italian authorities have launched an immediate investigation to determine the full scope of the incident and the underlying causes of the explosion.
In a separate incident, the spokesperson for the Rotterdam police in the Netherlands announced on Thursday that one person died and several others were injured following an explosion at the Port of Rotterdam. The cause of this explosion remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the details.
Rotterdam police stated on the social media platform X that the explosion happened around 11:30 AM local time on a road. “We are investigating to establish the details and the scene has been cordoned off,” the police added.
Furthermore, the energy company Gunvor, which manages oil product storage tanks near the Port of Rotterdam, reported a separate “incident” during maintenance operations. A company spokesperson confirmed that this incident, which took place on Thursday morning, resulted in injuries to at least several individuals, and that the company is cooperating with local authorities.
