A Palestinian source speaking to Al Jazeera reported that the meeting between Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, and a Hamas delegation in Cairo concluded after more than two hours of negotiations. The meeting was also attended by Nikolay Mladenov, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and envoy for Gaza.

During the discussions, Kushner conveyed assurances that President Trump is determined to advance his plan for the Gaza Strip, underscoring Washington’s commitment to this objective.

The Hamas delegation informed Kushner comprehensively about what they described as Israeli violations of the ceasefire in Gaza. They stressed that the movement rejects any new actions unless Israel provides guarantees beforehand.

The report indicates that Kushner informed the Hamas delegation that the United States opposes any plans aimed at displacing Gaza’s residents. He also noted that disarmament of armed groups is, in Trump’s view, a fundamental step that must precede any other action in Gaza.

Kushner further stated that the integration of Hamas into the political process is contingent upon complete disarmament. He emphasized that following disarmament, Washington would pursue a comprehensive political path in Gaza that includes all parties.

Concurrently, he advised the Hamas delegation not to rely on the outcomes of Israeli elections, suggesting that Israel maintains a unified stance on the Gaza file.
