Azerbaijan Summons Russian Ambassador Over ‘Provocative’ Media Content
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Republic of Azerbaijan summoned Russia’s Ambassador to Baku, Mikhail Udoykimov, due to the publication of “provocative, threatening, and violent” content against the people and government of Azerbaijan in Russian media. The protest was lodged based on data released by Mehr News Agency, citing Anatolia News Agency.
A statement from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Baku conveyed its objection and displeasure to Udoykimov regarding recent publications in Russian media directed against the Republic of Azerbaijan. Discussions specifically addressed remarks made against the Azerbaijani people and government during a program broadcast on a social media network on August 13.
The Russian ambassador was also reminded of statements made on the “Sputnik” radio program on August 7, which alleged that the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan was placed on Russia’s “list of terrorist and extremist groups.” Further complaints were raised concerning offensive remarks and provocative viewpoints aired on August 9, and on the “Spas” television network on August 16.
