French Publication Reveals Only One-Third of US Aircraft Carriers Operational

A French publication has reported that only one-third of the United States’ 11 aircraft carriers are currently ready for operational duties, with the majority undergoing or awaiting repairs.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the French publication Le Point has reported that only four of the 11 available United States aircraft carriers are currently operational. The remaining carriers are either undergoing repairs or are on a waiting list for maintenance.

The report suggests that the U.S. has struggled since the beginning of the current century to adequately equip its armed forces for increasingly diverse and frequent operations. This has led to extended mission durations for existing carriers, reducing their capacity for consecutive operations.

The prolonged use of these carriers has consequently increased the need for maintenance and repair periods, exacerbating existing problems due to a shortage of facilities for such work.

Previously, a former U.S. Navy officer indicated that the aging USS Abraham Lincoln might require up to three years to return to its previous operational condition. The Wall Street Journal, citing officials and analysts, reported that the replacement of the USS George Washington with the USS Lincoln has amplified concerns regarding the U.S. Navy’s capacity to respond to global developments and sustain prolonged operations.
