Egypt Facilitates Fatah-Hamas Consultations on Palestinian Elections

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Cairo is seeking to establish the groundwork for a consultative meeting between the Fatah and Hamas movements within the next 48 hours. Sources informed Al-Araby that the Egyptian capital aims to facilitate discussions between the two Palestinian factions on achieving an agreement for the unhindered and smooth holding of Palestinian Legislative Council elections.
Egyptian consultations are reportedly focused on developing a new formula for Hamas’s participation in the upcoming legislative elections. This development follows a visit by a high-level delegation from the Fatah movement to Cairo on Saturday for meetings with Egyptian officials. The Palestinian delegation is also scheduled to engage with representatives of other Palestinian groups to deliberate on the Palestinian parliamentary election dossier.
The Fatah delegation comprises Hussein Al-Sheikh, Deputy Chairman of the Fatah movement and Vice President of the Palestinian Authority; Majid Faraj, a member of the movement’s Central Committee; and Rouhi Fattouh, Speaker of the Palestinian National Council. The Fatah delegation is expected to meet with a delegation from the Hamas movement for the first time in an extended period. The Palestinian Legislative Council elections are slated to take place on November 28 of the current year.
