Former French and British Diplomats Urge Joint Action Against Israeli Policies

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, dozens of former senior French and British diplomats have urged their governments to cooperate in ensuring adherence to international law in Palestinian territories. They stated that Israel is actively working to destroy any prospect of a stable Palestinian state.
The letter, signed by 102 individuals including former British ambassadors to the UN and ex-Middle East directors at the French Foreign Ministry, emphasized the necessity of French and British engagement, especially after both nations recognized the State of Palestine in 2025. The signatories include Yves Aubin de La Messuzière and Denis Bouchardon.
The diplomats asserted that both nations believe officials responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity must be held accountable. This, they argue, is the only way for their governments to refute accusations of double standards. Consequently, France and the United Kingdom must act jointly to enforce international law in Palestine.
The letter highlights Israel’s persistent disregard for international law, the rulings of the International Court of Justice, and numerous UN Security Council resolutions, all while pursuing policies aimed at eliminating the possibility of an independent Palestinian state.
Violence in the West Bank, occupied by Israel since 1967, has escalated since the onset of the Gaza conflict, prompting widespread international concern over the conduct of Israeli soldiers and settlers. France and the United Kingdom recently joined other nations in issuing a statement condemning Israel’s publication of new construction tenders in the occupied West Bank.
The signatories also characterized the destruction of homes and pervasive settler violence, often with the complicity of the Israeli army and police in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, as ethnic cleansing. The letter concluded by noting that the world no longer views Israel as a genuine democracy, stating that there is nothing democratic about depriving others of their rights and lands.
