Russia Submits Draft Agreement for Small Nuclear Power Plants to Iran

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russia has provided Iran with a draft intergovernmental agreement for the construction of small nuclear power plants, as reported by Tasnim News Agency citing Russia’s state-owned atomic energy corporation Rosatom.

Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom, stated that this matter was discussed during recent negotiations between Russia and Iran, with Tehran expressing a keen interest in developing nuclear power generation using smaller capacities. Rosatom has indicated its intention to participate in these projects.

Likhachev further commented that Iran plans to develop its nuclear program once it returns to normal and peaceful conditions, and Russia is prepared to cooperate in this process. He added that the two countries had previously signed agreements for the construction of large nuclear power plant units, and negotiations are now underway for the establishment of new sites and smaller plants.

These remarks were made on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia, which is taking place from September 1st to September 4th.
