Putin Envoy to Meet US Representatives in Moscow Amid Ukraine Peace Talks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Kirill Dmitriev, the envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, will meet with U.S. special representatives Steve Whitcoff and Jared Kushner on Saturday following their arrival in Moscow, two individuals familiar with the travel plans told Reuters. Dmitriev, who told Reuters in June that he remained in contact with American negotiators during breaks in their visits to Russia, has attended all their previous meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He also played a role this year in negotiations concerning U.S. sanctions exemptions for Russian oil.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that Washington has a specific, new proposal to end the war, which has now entered its fifth year. Trump did not provide further details about this proposal. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also stated on Friday that Whitcoff and Kushner will travel to Ukraine on Sunday after their visit to Moscow.

Zelenskyy claimed on the social media platform X on Saturday that Russia targeted two Ukrainian airports ahead of the American envoys’ trip to Kyiv. However, the divergence between Russia and Ukraine regarding how to end the war remains profound. This conflict, lasting over four and a half years, is considered Europe’s deadliest engagement since World War II. Since the last round of peace negotiations in February, both sides have intensified their long-range aerial attacks into each other’s territory, and naval warfare has also escalated.
