Xi Jinping Calls for Deeper China-UK Cooperation as Tech Powers

Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged for enhanced cooperation between Beijing and London, identifying both nations as significant technological powers. The call came during his first official engagement with the new UK Prime Minister, Andy Burnham.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, President Xi Jinping of China on Tuesday emphasized the need for deeper collaboration between Beijing and London, characterizing them as two “major technology powers.” This was stated during his inaugural formal conversation with the newly appointed UK Prime Minister, Andy Burnham.

As reported by China’s state news agency, Xinhua, Xi extended congratulations to Burnham on his appointment as Prime Minister. He underscored that the shared interests between China and the United Kingdom outweigh the differences in their respective social systems.

“Both sides should respect each other and maintain mutual trust, transcend differences, and seek common ground while preserving differences, and expand mutually beneficial cooperation,” President Xi Jinping stated. He further noted that China and the UK are significant technology powerhouses with abundant resources in education, culture, and sports.

Xi also encouraged London, as a major economy and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, to cooperate with China in supporting multilateralism and free trade, and in striving for a “multipolar, just, and orderly world.”
