EU Naval Mission Aspides Boosts Readiness in Red Sea Amid Escalating Tensions
The European Union’s naval mission in the Red Sea, Operation Aspides, has increased its alert status for vessels due to the deteriorating security situation in the region, according to the EU’s foreign policy chief. This comes as Houthi attacks continue to disrupt maritime trade and impact global economic stability.
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the European Union’s naval mission in the Red Sea, known as Operation Aspides, has raised the readiness level of its vessels in response to the worsening situation in the region. Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, announced the heightened alert status, citing the ongoing escalation of maritime incidents.
Kallas asserted that Houthi attacks are unacceptable and harmful to the global economy. She further stated that diplomatic efforts are underway to end the conflict in Yemen and restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Kallas discussed these diplomatic initiatives with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Faisal bin Farhan.
