Turkey Rejects Netanyahu’s ‘Baseless’ Accusations, Cites Gaza Genocide
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Turkey has dismissed as “baseless” allegations made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his address at the UN General Assembly against the country and its President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Reports from the Anadolu Agency, cited by Mehr News Agency, indicated Turkey’s firm rejection of these claims.
Burhanettin Duran, Director of Communications for the Turkish Presidency, characterized Netanyahu’s accusations as a severe criticism and “contrary” to the values of the United Nations. He further stressed that utilizing the UN General Assembly platform to target Turkey and President Erdoğan contradicts the principles of peace, law, and dialogue that the UN represents.
Duran emphasized that Netanyahu’s remarks could not “conceal the truth of the massacres and the human catastrophe in Gaza, nor the ongoing international legal proceedings.”
In his UN address, Netanyahu had attacked Ankara and its president, calling Erdoğan “dictatorial” and alleging that Turkey harbors Hamas leaders and disseminates “anti-Semitic lies.”
Moments before Netanyahu’s speech commenced, dozens of delegates from various countries departed the hall, while several representatives chanted protests against him.
During his own address at the UN General Assembly, the Turkish President urged world leaders to exert greater pressure on the Israeli regime to halt its aggression in the Gaza Strip. He also called on all nations to recognize an independent Palestinian state.
The Turkish Parliament has reiterated its support for the Palestinian people. Speaking on this matter, Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s hurried visit to New York and his departure “as if he fled” would not absolve him of accountability for crimes against humanity.
Kurtulmuş asserted that the Turkish Parliament is the most effective global institution for monitoring and condemning the crimes against humanity committed by the Israeli regime in Gaza and Palestine. He highlighted that since October 7, 2023, the Parliament has unanimously passed nine resolutions concerning Palestine and the Israeli regime, which have been adopted as government policy.
He further noted plans to expand the parliamentary group supporting Palestine, aiming to transform it into an international platform representing humanity’s conscience in the face of the Israeli regime.
