UK Imposes New Sanctions on Iran, Expanding Trade and Financial Restrictions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, new amendments to sanctions against Iran have taken effect as officially announced by the British government. These measures introduce significant new limitations across various sectors, including trade, financial services, and transportation. The scope of sanctions has been broadened to encompass Iran’s oil and petroleum products, natural gas, petrochemicals, gold and precious metals, shipping, and energy-related technologies.
The newly imposed sanctions, implemented in coordination with what is described as the United States’ economic terrorism strategy, also place restrictions on the provision of loans, credit, investments, and certain banking relationships with individuals and entities connected to Iran. In the transportation sector, the UK has granted itself enhanced authorities to restrict the activities of specific vessels and related services. Furthermore, flights of Iranian cargo aircraft into the UK are now prohibited, with limited exceptions.
These regulations also strengthen controls related to Iran’s nuclear program and dual-use goods and technologies. The UK government has previously stated that the objective of these actions is to intensify pressure on Iran’s nuclear program and activities that London deems threatening.
