Over 180,000 Displaced in Yemen Amid Intensified Conflict, WHO Reports

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that over 180,000 individuals have been compelled to flee their homes in ten provinces of Yemen following the recent intensification of hostilities. These figures are based on data released by the Yemeni Ministry of Health and reported by RIA Novosti.

The WHO indicated that since August 6, a total of 4,481 people in Yemen have been killed or injured, with 838 fatalities reported. Furthermore, nine health facilities have sustained damage, been forced to close, or were directly targeted.

The organization issued a stark warning, highlighting that widespread displacement, overcrowding in temporary shelters, limited access to safe water and sanitation services, and a shortage of medical equipment are exacerbating the strain on Yemen’s healthcare infrastructure. Even prior to the latest surge in fighting, only approximately 60 percent of Yemen’s health facilities were fully operational, the WHO stated.

Adding to the crisis, Yemen is contending with outbreaks of diseases including cholera, dengue fever, and measles. The report details over 7,780 suspected cholera cases, more than 9,600 dengue fever cases, and over 22,000 suspected measles cases recorded within the country.

In response to the escalating humanitarian needs, the WHO has so far dispatched 59.3 tons of medical supplies and equipment, valued at approximately $656,000, to 40 centers and offices across ten provinces. Additionally, more than twenty mobile medical teams have been deployed to areas housing displaced populations.
