US Vice President Vance Demands Significant Iranian Nuclear Enrichment Cut for Deal

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance asserted on Tuesday that Iran must significantly reduce its nuclear enrichment capabilities to achieve any meaningful agreement, emphasizing the need for tangible steps beyond vague assurances.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, speaking with Reuters following his campaign trip to Alaska, stressed the necessity of a “meaningful” reduction in Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity as a prerequisite for any agreement. Vance stated that previous agreements likely contained only ambiguous guarantees and claimed Iran must take concrete and “significant” steps in lowering its nuclear enrichment to de-escalate tensions.

Defending Washington’s stringent stance, Vance posed a theoretical question regarding Iran’s need for high-enrichment fuel, asking, “If Iran’s goal is not to obtain a nuclear weapon, why does it need 60 percent enriched fuel? To prove its commitment to not building a nuclear weapon, its enrichment capacity must be reduced.”

These remarks come as the Trump administration maintains that the U.S. should not “exchange words for deeds” and seeks specific, practical concessions from Tehran. In this context, tensions stemming from military actions by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran’s nuclear facilities have escalated.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly emphasized that its nuclear program is entirely peaceful and that illegal attacks on safeguarded facilities constitute a clear violation of international law and a serious threat to the non-proliferation regime. Tehran has consistently called for an impartial response from the International Atomic Energy Agency to these transgressions.

Furthermore, Vance told media outlets that despite Iran’s capabilities to disrupt shipping routes, the country is incapable of halting energy exports from the Strait of Hormuz. It is worth noting that increased war costs and volatility in global energy markets, resulting from U.S. actions, have become a major political challenge for Donald Trump and the Republicans in the lead-up to the November elections. Pressures on the economy and military expenditures are among the factors influencing electoral calculations in the United States.
