Belgian Police Detain 107 Students Amidst Widespread European Protests

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, police in Liege, Belgium, announced on Wednesday that 107 individuals have been detained since October 1st amid ongoing student protests. These detentions include 80 administrative arrests and 27 judicial arrests, as reported by the Anadolu Agency via Mehr News Agency.
On Tuesday alone, 53 individuals were arrested – 46 administratively and seven judicially – following gatherings by young people in streets surrounding the University of Liege. Police stated that some protesters engaged in property damage and arson.
Students in the French-speaking regions of Belgium have been protesting for several days over increased tuition fees and public transport ticket prices, along with concerns about limited class capacities, intense curricula, and difficulties in accessing educational resources.
Local media reports indicate that students gathered on Wednesday in front of the “Athénée Léonie de Waha” school in Liege, with the demonstration initially proceeding peacefully. Protests are anticipated to continue throughout the day.
These demonstrations in Belgium are occurring concurrently with ongoing high school student protests in France, where students have recently blocked school entrances and held rallies to demand improvements in educational conditions.
