London Police Impose Strict Limits on Pro-Palestine Student March

Metropolitan Police in London have introduced stringent restrictions for a pro-Palestine student march scheduled for Wednesday, dictating assembly points, march routes, and a clear dispersal time. The protest coincides with the third anniversary of the events of October 7th and the start of the Gaza war.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, London‘s Metropolitan Police have imposed significant limitations on a pro-Palestine student demonstration planned for Wednesday. The march is expected to commence at King’s College London and conclude at Russell Square, in proximity to University College London.

Authorities have instructed participants to gather at Lincoln’s Inn Fields at 12:30 PM local time and proceed along a designated route toward Russell Square. The gathering must conclude by 2:00 PM, after which attendees are expected to disperse. Additionally, face coverings that obscure identity are prohibited. The police have cautioned that individuals violating these regulations may face arrest.

Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, James Harman, acknowledged that the police cannot ban the protest unless there is a severe risk of public disorder that cannot be managed through imposed restrictions. He stated that these conditions were not met to justify a ban on the demonstration.

Harman further asserted that individuals engaging in hate crimes, chanting slogans in support of an ‘intifada,’ or endorsing illegal extremism will be apprehended. The march is being held concurrently with the third anniversary of October 7th and the commencement of the Gaza war. Police had previously requested organizers to alter the protest’s timing, but the march remains scheduled for October 7th.
