Paris’s renowned historic Marché des Enfants Rouges has been severely damaged by a fire that broke out early Monday morning, according to local authorities and French media reports. While firefighters have contained the blaze, the covered market, a significant tourist attraction and one of Paris’s oldest food markets, has sustained catastrophic destruction.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Paris’s historic Marché des Enfants Rouges, a celebrated landmark and tourist magnet in the heart of the French capital, has been completely destroyed by a fire. Local French officials confirmed the devastating blaze occurred early Monday morning.

French media reports indicate that the fire, which was eventually brought under control, has left the market severely damaged, with the site of the incident almost entirely ruined. The alarm was raised with the fire department around 4:15 AM local time, according to Le Monde. Although firefighters managed to extinguish the flames, the market’s metal structure collapsed, leading to the complete demolition of the covered marketplace.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries, and no other casualties have been reported as of the time of this report. Established in 1615, the Marché des Enfants Rouges is considered Paris’s oldest covered food market. The complex was registered as a historical monument in France in 1982. The Paris prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation to determine the origin of the fire, the cause of which has not yet been officially announced.

Paris and other cities across France have recently witnessed violent clashes between protesting students and police. French media outlets have stated that there is no connection between the fire at the historic Parisian market and these ongoing protests.
