Elon Musk Donates $276 Million to Republican Campaigns Ahead of US Midterms

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, based on data published by Mehr News Agency and citing The New York Times, American billionaire and world’s wealthiest individual, Elon Musk, has financially supported the election campaigns of Republican candidates in the United States with a substantial sum of $276 million in the lead-up to the U.S. Congressional midterm elections.
As reported by the same newspaper, this amount, fully disbursed since July, positions Musk at the forefront of the largest financial benefactors for the Republicans in the November elections. Consequently, his total expenditure for this election cycle has reached $366 million.
The primary recipient of these funds was the “Senate Leadership Fund,” affiliated with the Republican Party, which received $158 million. This contribution was made with the objective of maintaining the party’s control over the upper chamber of Congress.
This is not the first instance of the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla investing considerable sums in U.S. elections. In 2024, he had previously contributed $290 million to support the re-election of then-U.S. President Donald Trump. However, subsequent events led to tensions between Musk and the Trump administration, resulting in Musk’s departure from engagement with the U.S. government.
