Saudi Arabia Faces Limited Options in Yemen as Riyadh Endures Escalating Attacks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, The New York Times has reported that Saudi Arabia is currently facing a limited range of options in its protracted war with Yemen. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is under increasing pressure to find a resolution to the conflict, which has spanned over a decade, and to halt the ongoing missile and drone attacks originating from Yemen.
Analysts suggest that Yemeni forces have significantly bolstered their capabilities since the devastating war initiated by Saudi Arabia against their country. In recent days, Yemen launched three major attacks targeting Riyadh’s airport, resulting in numerous casualties and injuries. The Yemeni armed forces have specifically targeted Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s ambitious vision of transforming Saudi Arabia into a global hub for business and tourism.
The report indicates that continued military engagement with Yemeni forces is unlikely to lead to their defeat, and a political solution also appears unviable as Yemen’s demands have escalated. Having faced repeated confrontations with stronger adversaries, Yemen has emerged with increased power. During the initial month of U.S. involvement in the conflict against Yemen, munitions worth at least one billion dollars were reportedly used.
Gregory Gause, a senior fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy specializing in Saudi affairs, emphasized that Saudi Arabia must seek an end to the U.S. war against Iran to de-escalate the current situation. He stated, “The critical issue is that the Saudis have suffered significant blows to their infrastructure from the Yemenis, while the Yemenis themselves are not losing much.” Gause added that this situation would likely deter anyone considering investment in Saudi Arabia.
