Seven Dead, Dozens Injured in Canadian Military Base Explosion

An explosion at Canada’s Wainwright military base has resulted in at least seven fatalities and dozens of injuries, according to reports from Canadian news outlets citing military sources.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a significant explosion at the Canadian Armed Forces’ Wainwright military base has claimed the lives of at least seven individuals and left dozens more wounded. The incident occurred around 4:00 PM local time.

Canadian network Global News, quoting multiple military sources, reported that live ammunition during a military exercise may have struck a gas pipeline or storage facility within the base, triggering the blast. Following the explosion, a massive fire broke out, fanned by strong winds reaching speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour. This led military authorities to issue an extraordinary alert across large sections of Alberta province.

Canadian Minister of National Defence, David McGuinty, confirmed that several people were killed and injured in the incident at Wainwright base in Alberta, western Canada. However, he did not specify the number of casualties or the exact nature of the event, stating that police investigations are ongoing and the situation is highly sensitive.

The mayor of the nearby town of Wainwright announced that necessary assistance would be provided. Wainwright base, located 180 kilometers southeast of Edmonton, is considered one of the most active military installations in Canada.
