Dozens of Israeli Draft Dodgers Arrested at Ben Gurion Airport

Over forty so-called Haredi Israelis, who have refused military service, were detained at Ben Gurion Airport upon arrival from the United States. This incident highlights a significant increase in draft evasion within the Israeli military.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israeli media outlets reported that more than 40 individuals identified as Haredi Israelis, who have evaded mandatory military service, were arrested at Ben Gurion Airport. These individuals were traveling from the United States to the occupied territories when they were apprehended at the airport.

The number of Israelis categorized as “deserters from military service” in the Israeli occupation army has risen from approximately 75,000 at the beginning of 2026 to around 110,000. This unprecedented surge is occurring amidst projections of further increases in the coming period.

Military estimates indicate that ultra-Orthodox Jews, known as Haredim, constitute approximately 80 percent of those currently identified as military service evaders.
