Lebanese Parliament Speaker Rejects US-Israeli Pressure to Repeal Anti-Israel Law

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has firmly stated that the 1955 law criminalizing relations with Israel will not be repealed, despite alleged pressure from the United States. Berri emphasized national unity and adherence to existing laws.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri asserted that the 1955 law targeting the Zionist regime will never be rescinded by the parliament. This stance comes amid reported American pressure to abolish the aforementioned legislation.

Responding to inquiries from Al-Akhbar newspaper regarding these pressures, Berri stated, “Lebanon is not left without laws. Anyone who believes the country has been abandoned is gravely mistaken. I am very eager to see who would even propose such a thing.”

Berri further underscored the critical importance of safeguarding national unity and distancing the country from internal discord.

This declaration follows remarks by US Ambassador to Beirut, Michelle Sison, who recently addressed rumors about Nabih Berri’s alleged agreement to repeal the law criminalizing ties with the Zionist entity. Sison commented, “You always drag Nabih Berri into everything. Does Nabih Berri decide everything alone? We must put an end to this whole matter!”
