Russia and China plan to build a nuclear power plant on the moon

The head of the Russian Federal Space Agency announced: Russia and China are considering the delivery and installation of a nuclear power plant on the moon in 2033-2035.

Yuri Borisov said on Tuesday at one of the meetings of the World Youth Festival in Sirius, Russia: Roscosmos and its Chinese colleagues are seriously considering this project.

He stated: such a mission will be carried out automatically and using robotic technology for the purpose of safety against radiation.

The head of the Russian Federal Space Agency continued: The technical problems of creating such a facility have been practically solved.

Borisov said about the purpose of implementing this joint project between Russia and China: Only through nuclear energy can the operation of the equipment of the future space station on the surface of the moon be ensured.

He continued: One lunar day lasts 27 Earth days, and half of this time, sunlight does not fall on the surface of the moon, so traditional solar batteries for astronauts cannot be used there.

Russia’s Federal Space Agency and China’s National Space Administration have already signed a memorandum of understanding in 2021 to establish a joint station to conduct research on the moon.

World Youth Festival started on March 1, 2024 (March 11, 1402) with the message of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The festival continues until March 7 in the federal territory of “Sirius” located in the Krasnodar region of Russia. According to Russian media, 20,000 young leaders, including 10,000 people from other countries, have participated in this festival in the fields of education, science, culture, sports and business.
