Reuters: Head of Mossad goes to Doha to negotiate the Gaza ceasefire

English media reported that the head of Mossad will hold talks with Qatari and Egyptian officials in Doha on Sunday about establishing a ceasefire in Gaza.

Mossad chief David Barnea is scheduled to hold talks with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani and Egyptian officials on Sunday in Doha, Qatar’s capital, about the ceasefire in Gaza.

Reuters news agency reported, quoting informed sources, that this meeting is a direct response to the latest proposal of the Hamas movement.

Hamas announced late on Thursday evening that it has presented a comprehensive vision to the mediators “based on the principles that are necessary to agree on a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.”

According to Reuters, the first phase of Hamas’ proposal includes the release of women, children, the elderly, and sick Israelis in exchange for the release of 700 to 1,000 Palestinian prisoners. This proposal also includes Israeli female soldiers.

In this proposal, it is also specified that the final date of the permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of the occupiers from the Gaza Strip will be announced after the end of the first phase, provided that in the second phase all the prisoners are released from both sides.

Earlier, the Israeli regime rejected all proposals for a ceasefire and a senior Hamas official told Reuters that Tel Aviv is not looking for an agreement.

Meanwhile, sources told Al Jazeera that Hamas has submitted a proposal for a three-stage ceasefire, each of which will last 42 days.

Hamas has made the withdrawal of occupying forces from al-Rashid and Salahuddin streets in the first phase of this ceasefire conditional on the return of refugees and the arrival of aid.

Palestinian resistance movement has also proposed to release 50 Palestinian prisoners, including 30 prisoners with life sentences, in exchange for the release of every female soldier captured alive.

These sources say that Hamas’s condition is to announce a permanent ceasefire with the beginning of the second phase before any exchange of prisoners. It starts with a ceasefire.
