German police attack on Islamic centers
According to the report of Fars International News Agency, the German government has announced that the country’s police have searched 54 locations throughout the country in line with the investigation of an Islamic organization in Hamburg.
The Ministry of the Interior of Germany claims that the “Islamic Center of Hamburg” or IZH has been under the surveillance of the country’s internal intelligence agency for a long time.
This ministry claimed that the activities of the Hamburg Islamic Center are aimed at promoting the “revolutionary concepts” of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is considered a violation of the German constitution.
German officials have also claimed that this center has supported the activities of the Lebanese Hezbollah group, which has been engaged in an exchange of fire with the Israeli regime in recent days.
Washington Post in a report about this news wrote that the Hamburg Islamic Center runs a mosque in this German city.
The German Ministry of Interior said that the German intelligence apparatus believes that it has significant control and influence over some other mosques and active groups in Germany. The ministry said the said mosques and centers often promote “points of view that are clearly anti-Semitic and anti-Israel.”
German officials have said they are investigating whether IZH’s activities can be banned. In addition, the German authorities have said that the goods obtained from Islamic centers will also be evaluated and investigated during the searches.
Washington writes that Wednesday’s attacks were carried out in Hamburg and 6 other German cities. This investigation, in addition to IZH, has targeted five other groups that seem to be operating under the same center.
In a press conference in Berlin, the German Interior Minister said: “Our actions show that we have Islamist activities under our surveillance. I want to say clearly that we are taking action against Islamic extremism and our goal is not to take action against a religion.” He added: “But this issue is equally clear. that we will not tolerate any Islamist propaganda that is anti-Semitic and anti-Israel here.” In particular, five members of the Hezbollah group have been searched.
Germany hosts the largest Muslim population in Europe after France, but numerous reports indicate that Islamophobia has increased significantly in this country.
