The official and full membership of Romania and Bulgaria in the Schengen area started today, January 1, 2025.
The European Council agreed on the full integration of these two countries in the Schengen area on December 12 last year.
The complete integration of Romania and Bulgaria in the Schengen area was previously interrupted due to the opposition of the Netherlands, Hungary and Austria.
