U.S. Forces Withdraw from Al-Hasakah, Move Toward Iraqi Border
Damascus Media Reports U.S. Forces Withdrawing from Base in Syria’s Hasakah Province
According to the English section of Webangah News Agency,citing Mehr News Agency and Sputnik,local Syrian media have reported that the U.S. military is withdrawing it’s forces from a base in Hasakah province.
syria’s Al-Watan newspaper wrote that U.S. military vehicles loaded with equipment are leaving a base in the city of Al-Shaddadi. The newspaper added that these vehicles are heading toward the Syria-Iraq border.
Last week, Pentagon spokesperson Cyn parnell stated that the U.S. intends to reduce its military presence in Syria to fewer than 1,000 troops in the coming months and consolidate them into fewer bases across the country.
Earlier, the Pentagon cited U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegest as saying that American forces in Syria woudl be consolidated under a joint operational command called “Steadfast Resolve”—a decision described by the Pentagon as “a deliberate process based on situational assessments.”
The U.S.Department of Defense claims its forces will remain positioned to conduct “precision strikes” against remnants of the ISIS terrorist group.
