Starmer: Europe Stands Strong and United Behind Ukraine
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer declared Europe’s strong and unified stance in support of Ukraine during a recent address.
Starmer stated, “We will strive to achieve a just peace in Ukraine. Europe is strong and united behind Ukraine.” He further asserted that London, along with its European allies, stands firmly with Ukraine in the face of what he termed “Putin’s aggression.”
This declaration of European support from London comes amid reports that negotiations between London and Brussels regarding the UK’s participation in the €150 billion European Union defense fund have collapsed. Europe is now proceeding with plans to bolster its defense capabilities without the involvement of London.
European Union ambassadors reportedly rejected London’s financial proposal of approximately $215 million for inclusion in the “Action for Security in Europe” fund. This figure falls significantly short of the $2.16 billion demanded by the EU for membership in the mechanism.
This fund serves as a pivotal component of Europe’s revamped defense strategy, aiming to augment defense budgets and facilitate collaborative arms procurement among European nations.
