His administration has repeatedly targeted mainstream media, sought to defund public broadcasting, and filed heavy legal complaints against major newspapers.

Simultaneously, pro-Palestinian student and social movements have faced severe suppression. Data reveals that over 94% of 1,360 student protests held between October 2023 and May 2024 centered on support for Palestine.

Trump has also pressured universities by leveraging financial and legal tools, suspending research funding under the pretext of combating antisemitism. Analysts suggest these measures reflect a broader strategy to weaken independent institutions and restrict civil liberties in the U.S.
