Trump’s State of the Union Address Met with Protests and Representative Boycotts

President Donald Trump’s annual address to Congress in 2026 was met with widespread protests and controversy, as numerous Democratic representatives boycotted the event and others voiced their dissent through direct actions and verbal challenges during the speech.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, President Donald Trump‘s annual address to Congress in the United States encountered significant protests and controversies, as reported by Mehr News Agency. Many Democratic representatives boycotted the speech, and several expressed their dissatisfaction with Trump’s remarks through protest actions.

Among the notable incidents during the address, some representatives were observed sleeping while Trump was speaking. Other Democratic lawmakers responded to Trump’s statements by shouting, “You are a liar.” When Trump spoke about the situation of immigrants in Minnesota, one member of Congress loudly refuted his claims.

Trump’s comments regarding Somali immigrants and other immigrants residing in the United States drew sharp reactions from Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, Democratic members of Congress. Trump, seemingly angered by the lack of applause from Democratic representatives, including Ilhan Omar, told them they should be ashamed of themselves.

In response to Trump, Ilhan Omar stated, “You should be ashamed of yourself for killing Americans,” referencing the deaths of two Minneapolis residents by immigration officials.

The expulsion of Al Green, a representative from Houston, was another incident surrounding the address. He was removed from Congress while holding a placard that read, “Blacks are not monkeys!” American media also characterized Trump’s action of praising several athletes as a campaign move.

North Eastern Global News, in a report, described Trump’s address as demagogic, writing, “Trump tried to excite members of Congress, but his task in the midterm elections will not be this easy.”

American media also paid particular attention to the swelling of Trump’s hands, deeming it a prominent side issue of the U.S. President’s annual speech. Earlier reports concerning Trump’s illness and proximity to death had been published but were denied by the White House.
