Two Foreign Tankers Carrying Iraqi Fuel Attacked in International Waters

Two foreign oil tankers transporting Iraqi fuel were targeted in an attack in international waters, resulting in a fire and the death of one crew member. Iraqi authorities have described the incident as an act of sabotage.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, based on data published by Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, an official at an Iraqi port told Reuters that two foreign tankers carrying Iraqi fuel were attacked in the country’s territorial waters, leading to a fire on board both vessels.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi Security Information Headquarters announced that the two tankers were targeted in Iraqi territorial waters in an act of sabotage. The security entity added that rescue operations for the crews have been completed, with a total of 38 individuals saved from the two vessels. However, one crew member lost their life in the incident.

The headquarters further stated that six vessels were deployed to rescue the crews of the targeted tankers.

In related developments, the Iraq State Oil Marketing Company (SOMO) confirmed the incident involving the tankers, warning that the attack on these two vessels would negatively impact Iraq’s security and economy.
