EU Willing to Aid Lasting Iran-US Deal, Says Kallas

The European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, stated that the bloc is prepared to contribute to a sustainable solution between Iran and the United States, acknowledging Pakistan’s mediating role.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a report from Mehr News Agency, citing European Union data, indicates that Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, announced on Monday that she and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister engaged in discussions regarding significant global developments, including those in West Asia.

Kallas highlighted Pakistan’s crucial role as a primary mediator between the United States and Iran, noting that Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts have been instrumental in preventing full-scale conflict on several occasions. These endeavors, she stated, are highly recognized and appreciated across Europe. Kallas suggested that with support, a tentative diplomatic opening exists for extending a ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

However, Kallas emphasized that any interim understanding between the US and Iran must be followed by more profound negotiations concerning Tehran’s nuclear program and other critical issues, asserting that lasting stability necessitates more comprehensive solutions. She added that the European Union is ready to assist in achieving a sustainable and peaceful resolution regarding the Iran-US situation. The EU intends to leverage its economic influence, long-standing relationships with partners in the Persian Gulf, and direct engagement with Iran itself. Kallas sees a tangible role for the European Union in helping to solidify any final agreement.
