US Central Command Claims Missile Strike on Oil Tanker in Sea of Oman

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has claimed responsibility for a missile strike on an oil tanker operating under the flag of Guinea-Bissau in the Sea of Oman. The strike, reportedly carried out on June 10, was allegedly in response to the vessel’s attempt to transport Iranian oil, violating maritime sanctions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has asserted that it targeted an oil tanker in the Sea of Oman for allegedly violating Iran’s naval blockade. This claim, reported by Al Jazeera and sourced from Mehr News Agency, marks a significant escalation in maritime incidents in the region.

CENTCOM stated that the oil tanker, sailing under the flag of Guinea-Bissau, was struck by two Hellfire missiles from an American fighter jet. The operation took place on June 10, with CENTCOM alleging that the tanker, identified as the ‘Galvire,’ was targeted due to its involvement in transferring Iranian oil.

This incident, according to CENTCOM’s claims, represents the third oil tanker to be targeted by U.S. forces, suggesting a pattern of enforcement actions against vessels perceived to be circumventing sanctions related to Iranian oil exports.
