China Detains US Citizen on Espionage Charges, Warns Against Sanctions
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the detention of a U.S. citizen on suspicion of espionage, while also strongly condemning new U.S. Treasury sanctions against Chinese entities.
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China has reported the arrest of an American citizen within the country on charges of espionage. The ministry has not yet released further details regarding this development.
In response to fresh sanctions imposed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury targeting Chinese individuals and entities, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated its firm opposition to unilateral and illegal sanctions. Beijing emphasized its commitment to taking all necessary measures to decisively protect the legitimate rights and interests of its companies and citizens.
