Lebanese Prime Minister Says Beirut to Benefit from Potential Islamabad Agreement

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam acknowledged that Beirut is naturally influenced by the Islamabad negotiations, stating that Lebanon would benefit if the talks lead to a ceasefire and peace in the region.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stated in an interview with Reuters that Lebanon is naturally influenced by the Islamabad negotiations. While Lebanese officials previously claimed that Israel’s reduction in attacks on various Lebanese regions, including southern Beirut and Beirut itself, was not based on Islamabad negotiations or Tehran’s pressure on American and Israeli parties, Salam acknowledged in his latest press interview that Lebanon would benefit if the Islamabad negotiations lead to a ceasefire and peace in the region.

He asserted that Lebanon insists on negotiating as an independent state, rather than having another country negotiate on its behalf. Despite the Lebanese government’s perceived failure in recent months to fulfill its duties regarding citizen security and confronting Israeli aggression, and its inaction in alleviating the difficult living conditions of Lebanese refugees, Salam claimed to be in constant contact with Hezbollah, with his only demand being the fulfillment of its commitments.

The Lebanese government, under U.S. oversight, has exerted significant pressure in recent months for the disarmament of Hezbollah. In this regard, at the peak of Israeli aggressions against Lebanon, it entered into ambiguous direct negotiations with Israel, which have yielded no achievements for the country over the past five rounds.
