US Senator Graham Expresses Satisfaction with Strait of Hormuz Agreement

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has welcomed the recent understanding with Iran regarding the continued openness of the Strait of Hormuz, a development he considers a significant strategic achievement after intense pressure campaigns.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a staunch advocate for escalating pressure on Iran prior to the conflict and a figure known for his hardline stance, has expressed satisfaction with the outcome, which has led to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The strait, it is noted, was operational before the conflict.

Graham announced on the social media platform X, “I am pleased that a memorandum of understanding with Iran to keep the Strait of Hormuz open has been agreed upon.” He further stated, seemingly viewing a return to the initial status quo as a strategic success, “I will closely follow future negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program and other issues.”

The American senator also addressed discrepancies in the narratives from Tehran and Washington concerning the agreement. “I am somewhat concerned that Iran’s interpretation of this agreement appears to differ from what the American negotiating team claims,” he remarked.

Graham reiterated that, under U.S. law, any nuclear agreement with Iran must be submitted to Congress for review and a vote. He emphasized his eagerness to examine the final text of the agreement and believes it is imperative for JD Vance, the Vice President and architect of the deal, along with his negotiating partners, to be involved in the process of presenting the final agreement to Congress.

Concluding his remarks, the Republican senator extended congratulations to all those involved in the process, stating, “Congratulations to everyone who brought us to this point. Time will tell all.”

Lindsey Graham, previously perceived as a warmonger who sought nothing less than a regime change in Iran before the Ramadan war, is now expressing contentment with an agreement whose most significant declared achievement for the United States is the maintenance of the Strait of Hormuz’s openness. Many American media outlets and analysts have pointed out that the waterway was already open prior to the conflict, and Iran’s nuclear file is still slated for discussion in future negotiations.

In a related development, The Washington Post reported that U.S. President Donald Trump initiated the war against Iran with the objective of fragmenting its sovereignty but ultimately settled for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Shortly after midnight, the Secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council issued a statement regarding the end-of-war agreement between Iran and the United States. The statement announced that the Islamic Republic of Iran, under the guidance of its martyred leader, has achieved supremacy over the American-Zionist enemy. Under the directives of the Supreme Leader of the Revolution, with the support of the populace and the diligent efforts of the Islamic fighters, following several months of difficult and intensive negotiations, and based on a resolution from the Supreme National Security Council, the memorandum of understanding concerning the end-of-war negotiations (Islamabad Negotiations) between Iran and the United States was finalized on the evening of June 14, 2026.

According to the agreements reached, the war and military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, have ceased immediately and permanently. Furthermore, the naval blockade against Iran will be lifted immediately and completely. The signing of this memorandum of understanding is scheduled to formally occur on Friday, June 19, 2026.
