Iran and Oman Reiterate Commitment to Strait of Hormuz Security Amid Recent Deal

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Omani counterpart, Badr Al-Busaidi, have emphasized the security of the Strait of Hormuz in the context of a recent accord between Iran and the United States. This statement was reported by Al Jazeera, citing Mehr News Agency.
Both ministers reaffirmed their nations’ commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two neighboring countries and expanding it across various sectors. This cooperation is built upon principles of good neighborliness and the historical and cultural ties that bind the countries and peoples of the region.
The Omani News Agency reported that during a phone call on Tuesday, the two ministers reiterated their countries’ adherence to international laws concerning the safe and free passage of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. This comes in consideration of the recent memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.
They expressed hope that the upcoming period will witness serious and continuous efforts from all parties to ensure a supportive and stable environment conducive to an effective and constructive political and diplomatic process aimed at maintaining regional security and stability.
Earlier, the spokesperson for the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nicola Bidod, announced that the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran was scheduled for Friday, June 19, in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.
Just hours before this announcement, U.S. President Donald Trump stated during a meeting with the President of the United Arab Emirates that the text of the memorandum of understanding between his country and the Islamic Republic would be released during an official session.
