Trump Expresses Disappointment Over Lack of European Support in Iran Conflict

U.S. President Donald Trump voiced dissatisfaction with European allies for not offering support during a conflict with Iran, stating that while no assistance was needed, allies should have at least signaled their willingness to help. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, however, affirmed support for Trump’s actions regarding Iran.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Washington, where he expressed disappointment with Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Spain for not offering support during a conflict with Iran. Trump stated, “It would have been good if they had at least declared their readiness to help us in the war with Iran, but they did not.”

In unsubstantiated remarks, Trump claimed, “We did not need any help,” and asserted, “We crushed Iran in the very first week, but it would have been good if our allies had shown their willingness to help.”

The U.S. President also mentioned that he initially did not intend to attend the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara but later changed his mind.

Meanwhile, the NATO Secretary General, seeking to gain Trump’s favor, stated that he supports the U.S. President’s actions concerning Iran.

Stoltenberg claimed, “President Trump’s actions were important because Iran was approaching nuclear capability.” He further alleged that Iran has been a “exporter of terrorism and instability” and that acquiring nuclear capabilities would pose a threat to the region and the world.

Addressing the war in Ukraine, the NATO Secretary General spoke about the weak defense production capacity in Europe and America, emphasizing that increasing military and defense production in Europe will be a primary focus of the upcoming NATO summit.

He added, “During the weeks of the war [against Iran], approximately 5,000 American aircraft took off from European bases, and to support operations, Romania’s Bucharest airport was temporarily provided for the flights of American refueling aircraft.”

Stoltenberg also noted that 42 countries, including 9 from the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific region, will attend the NATO summit in the next two weeks.
