UNICEF Warns of Deadly Illusion of Gaza Ceasefire for Children

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, citing the Palestinian Information Center and Mehr News Agency, James Elder, spokesperson for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), announced that over 260 children have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire began in October 2025. Elder described this ceasefire as a ‘bitter and deadly illusion,’ emphasizing that despite claims of a truce, a child is losing their life every single day on average.
Elder highlighted the dire conditions faced by children in Gaza, noting that they consistently appear unwell. Despite an end to widespread famine, sufficient and quality food remains inaccessible, with children reportedly having access to only two types of food items per day. He further stressed that no children in Gaza are receiving three full meals containing all necessary nutrients. Restrictions on imports and severe challenges in securing water persist nearly nine months into the supposed ceasefire.
The report also shared the story of Mohammed, a Palestinian child who, while being displaced from northern Gaza, was directly struck on the head with the butt of a rifle by a female Israeli soldier. This brutal assault resulted in severe injury to his right eye, leading to the loss of vision. Mohammed now lives with his family in a refugee tent, his sole wish being to leave Gaza for treatment, hoping to regain some of the sight that the war has stolen from him.
