Hamas Calls for Trial of Israeli Leaders Over Alleged Palestinian Prisoner Torture

The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has called for the trial of Israeli leaders for alleged systematic torture and severe violations against Palestinian prisoners, coinciding with the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Hamas has urged the trial of Israeli leaders for alleged horrific torture and systematic violations against Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. This call comes on the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, marked annually on June 26 by United Nations bodies.

Hamas stated in a communiqué that the Israeli regime continues its organized violations against Palestinian prisoners, including psychological and physical torture, denial of basic human rights, prevention of medical treatment, visitation, and adequate food, solitary confinement, and the imposition of inhumane conditions on thousands of detainees.

The statement highlighted that among the detainees are women, children, the elderly, doctors, health workers, and civilian staff who were abducted from their workplaces during the ongoing genocidal war. Hamas emphasized that this day serves as a crucial global opportunity to expose the torture crimes perpetrated by the Israeli regime in its prisons, characterizing these actions as a consistent policy of the regime against Palestinian prisoners and detainees.

The movement added that these actions constitute a clear violation of international charters, laws, customs, and heavenly doctrines, asserting that this occasion should be used to highlight the continuous suffering and escalating pain of prisoners across political, legal, humanitarian, and media platforms.

On the occasion of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, Hamas called for serious and tangible action from the United Nations, the international community, and all legal and human rights institutions to expose the torture crimes committed by the Israeli regime against the Palestinian people. The movement also stressed the necessity of pressuring the Israeli regime to cease its violations against Palestinian prisoners and detainees and to ensure their immediate release.

Furthermore, Hamas demanded effective pressure on the Israeli regime to clarify the fate of thousands of Palestinians who have disappeared in the regime’s prisons, emphasizing the need for families to be allowed to visit them and for human rights organizations to inspect their humanitarian conditions.

The movement also called for all legal and human rights institutions to initiate and activate judicial cases in international courts against Israeli leaders responsible for torture and other crimes against the Palestinian people, concluding with the assertion that Israeli leaders must be prevented from evading justice.

The Palestinian Center for Defense of Prisoners reported that Israeli prisons have become a permanent scene of torture for prisoners. The center stated that Israeli jails are continuously sites of psychological and physical torture against Palestinian detainees, with the occupying regime implementing torture as an organized policy rather than isolated transgressions, which is a clear violation of international charters and laws.

According to the center, approximately 150 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli jails since 1967 due to torture, human rights violations, and medical negligence. Around 90 Palestinian prisoners have died in the last two years of the genocide in Gaza.

The statement detailed that Palestinian prisoners in the occupying regime’s prisons face beatings, humiliation, suspension, starvation, solitary confinement, deprivation of medical treatment, and even sexual assault. The Palestinian Center for Defense of Prisoners urged the United Nations and legal bodies to launch independent investigations into these crimes and compel the occupying regime to cease the torture of Palestinian prisoners.

The center also emphasized that the international community must pursue and prosecute Israeli war criminals involved in ordering or carrying out torture crimes.
