International Maritime Organization Awaiting Iran’s Approval for Vessel Evacuation from Strait of Hormuz

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has halted operations to evacuate vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz and is awaiting Iran’s authorization to proceed, following recent regional tensions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has stated that the organization is waiting for Iran’s permission to evacuate ships from the Strait of Hormuz. The IMO official noted that the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway where all vessels have the right to passage, and the organization does not oppose the use of two routes through the strait.

The IMO had previously proposed safe routes and offered to clear mines in the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with Iran. All parties were informed of the actions taken to establish exit routes for vessels. However, the IMO’s evacuation operation for stranded ships in the strait was suspended after an oil tanker attack. The organization is now awaiting Iran’s position and authorization to allow ships to depart from Hormuz.
