Saudi Arabia-U.S. Relations Tense Over Iran Policy, Reports Indicate

Sources have revealed increasing tensions between Saudi Arabia and the United States, primarily stemming from disagreements over policy towards Iran and the security of vital oil transit routes like the Strait of Hormuz, according to the New York Post.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, sources familiar with the matter told the New York Post that a crisis has emerged in Washington-Riyadh relations, fueled by the conflict concerning Iran, the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and threats to Saudi Arabia‘s oil interests.

The report indicates that the Trump administration reportedly opposed Saudi Arabia’s repeated warnings and its calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the lifting of the blockade on Iranian ports. This divergence in approach has led to friction between the two nations.

In response to perceived threats from Iran and following the announcement of President Trump’s plan to protect oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, Saudi Arabia reportedly closed its military facilities to American operations out of fear of Iranian retaliation. Consequently, this initiative reportedly faltered within two days of its commencement.

Since then, relations between Saudi Arabia and the United States have experienced escalating tensions. Reports suggest that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman voiced his dissent regarding U.S. policies during his attendance at the G7 summit in France. Furthermore, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly did not visit Riyadh during his regional tour.

Meanwhile, other Persian Gulf countries have participated in efforts against Iran by granting the United States access to their airspace and land routes.
