Greenland Premier: Trump Abandons Plan to Annex Island

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Greenland‘s Prime Minister, Múte Bourup Egede, announced that U.S. President Donald Trump has abandoned his plan to annex the island. This information was conveyed by a special representative of the United States to Greenlandic officials.
Speaking at the Aix-en-Provence Economic Forum in southern France, Egede stated that Greenland has faced extensive pressure over the past two years due to its strategic location, and these pressures continue. He emphasized that Greenland is managing this situation through direct dialogue with Washington and seeks cooperation with nations that respect democracy, international law, and human rights.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the support received from France and the European Union during this period. He confirmed that the U.S. special representative informed Greenlandic authorities three days prior that Trump had relinquished the idea of annexation.
However, Egede cautioned that U.S. pressure persists. Greenland intends to maintain its close relationships with the European Union, France, Nordic countries, Denmark, and NATO. He also called for expanded cooperation with Canada, highlighting Greenland’s mineral resources as a potential asset for European nations seeking to reduce their reliance on China in this sector.
In recent months, the U.S. President had repeatedly claimed Washington’s need for Greenland due to national security interests. These assertions were met with strong opposition from the governments of both Greenland and Denmark.
