UN Declares 2027-2036 International Decade for the Culture of Peace for Future Generations
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the United Nations General Assembly has passed a resolution officially naming the years 2027 through 2036 as the ‘International Decade for the Culture of Peace for Future Generations.’ This global initiative provides a decade-long framework aimed at expanding international cooperation, increasing youth participation in decision-making processes, and advancing sustainable development.
The resolution, introduced at the initiative of Emomali Rahmon, the President of Tajikistan, lays the groundwork for the implementation mechanisms of this decade. The document emphasizes adherence to the goals and principles of the UN Charter and the provisions of the ‘Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace.’ Key priorities outlined include broadening the participation of children and youth in public life, strengthening international cooperation, and implementing initiatives to enhance mutual trust, social cohesion, and partnership among nations.
Dovlatshoh Gulmohammadzoda, Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Russia, highlighted that this resolution transcends a symbolic declaration, underscoring the solidarity of nations for the future. He stated that the ‘Decade of Peace’ is a logical continuation of the achievements from the UN’s ‘Summit of the Future’ in 2024 and the ‘Pact for the Future.’ Gulmohammadzoda added that Tajikistan, actively involved in areas such as water resource management, glacier protection, and climate issues, is striving to contribute to the creation of a sustainable framework for peace.
The resolution also commends the efforts of governments, leaders, and peoples in strengthening peace and national unity through inclusive political processes, confidence-building measures, and investments in social cohesion, describing these experiences as an inspiring model for current and future generations.
Content-wise, this document aligns with BRICS’s humanitarian approaches, which prioritize fostering mutual trust, enhancing international cooperation, supporting sustainable development, and expanding cultural and human exchanges.
