Saudi Arabia Justifies Iraq Strikes Under ‘Legitimate Defense’ Claim

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Saudi Ministry of Defense has claimed that Riyadh is not seeking to escalate tensions but will respond to any aggression. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs also asserted that the recent attacks were carried out based on the right to legitimate defense, in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
The ministry further claimed: “Saudi Arabia seeks to preserve its sovereignty and security and will take necessary measures if faced with any threat.” Simultaneously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused resistance groups aligned with Iran of escalating tensions, stating these actions occurred while Riyadh was endeavoring to de-escalate regional tensions.
Concurrently, Shafaq News network, citing the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), reported that two PMF members were injured following a joint operation by the United States and Saudi Arabia targeting positions in the southern Iraqi province of Basra.
