Migrant Crisis in Ceuta Claims 67 Lives Amid Border Surge with Morocco

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Spain’s Interior Ministry announced on Saturday that the number of bodies discovered on the shores of Ceuta, amidst the border crisis with Morocco over the past two days, has climbed to 67.

Reports indicate that some individuals perished in the crowd surge while attempting to reach a breakwater, while others drowned. The surge followed the arrival of approximately 60,000 migrants who crossed the border into the small Spanish enclave between Thursday and Friday.

In response to the unprecedented influx, Spain declared its intention to construct a 500-meter containment barrier along the sea-facing breakwater. Spanish Foreign Minister José Albares previously emphasized that nearly all individuals who entered Ceuta have been repatriated to Morocco, stating that over 48,000 people who had entered from the North African nation have been returned.

The Spanish government also indicated plans for a gradual reopening of the Melilla border.
